It's never a good idea to leave your surfboard alone whilst you grab a post-surf snack or drink, so take it with you or leave it with people you trust.
Also, investing in secure, lockable straps is a fantastic option if you're attaching your surfboard to the roof of your car. Whilst they may not stop the most determined board snatcher, the sight of them alone is often enough to make most look elsewhere for an easier target.
