We have just passed a thousand reviews across Google and TripAdvisor, and not one of them is below four stars. We wanted to stop for a minute and say thank you.
A thousand is a strange number to get your head around. It is not an award and nobody handed it to us. It is a thousand separate people who got out of the water, dried off, went about the rest of their holiday, and then at some point that evening or that week decided we were worth writing about. Most people never leave a review for anything. These ones did.
What gets us isn't just people talking about the surf lessons they had with us.
People write about Will taking the time to work out what one person needed instead of shouting the same thing at everyone. About Holly being patient with a seven year old on her first wave. About the showers, the coffee afterwards, and somewhere warm to get changed. One review this summer summed it up better than we could:
No egos, no attitude - just a bunch of genuinely friendly people who want to share their enjoyment of the water, whatever your level.
We are a small surf school on one beach. We are not the biggest in Cornwall and we have never tried to be. What we have got is a permanent base right on Perranporth beach, a team of coaches who genuinely love teaching, and a thousand people kind enough to say so in public.
So thank you. To everyone who stood up for the first time and could not stop grinning, to everyone who wanted to hire a wetsuit or surf board and get in the water, to everyone who came back the next year, and to everyone who took five minutes to write something afterwards. It makes more difference than you would think.
The sea is still warm, the beach is quiet, and we are open through the autumn. Come and be number one thousand and one.
