What is Time2Move?

Time2Move is an Active Cornwall initiative, part-funded by Cornwall Council and the Department for Education. It gives children the chance to get active and try new sports during the school holidays, with fully funded places available for children on free school meals.

Stoked Surf School has been an approved provider for both Time2Move and Active Cornwall since 2025, and this summer we are back for a second year of Time2Move surf lessons on Perranporth Beach for children aged 8 to 14.

After the success of last year's programme, we have 20 free places for children on free school meals, plus 4 paid spaces for families who would like their child to take part outside the FSM programme. Every child gets exactly the same experience: the same qualified instructors, the same waves, surfing and bodyboarding on Perranporth Beach, a healthy hot lunch included in the day, and their own LOOP band, certificate and sticker to take home.

We are also the only surf school in Perranporth with a permanent base and indoor facilities. Parents and guardians, you have the run of our indoor chill-out area, outdoor showers and coffee machine while you wait.

What Does the Day Look Like?

9:30 AM: Meet at Stoked Surf School to get changed
10:00 AM: Head to Beach HQ to collect boards
10:30 AM: Beach games and warm-up
11:00 AM: Surfing and bodyboarding
12:45 PM: Return to HQ and get changed
1:00 PM: Lunch, plus your LOOP band, certificate and sticker
1:30 PM: Pick-up from Stoked Surf School

What will your child learn?

Every session is designed to build confidence as well as surf skills. Over the course of the day, your child will work on:

Teamwork and communication
Ocean safety and water awareness
Surfing and bodyboarding technique
Having a lot of fun in the sea

What is Time2Move?

It provides fully funded holiday activity places for children on free school meals, and a small number of subsidised paid places for other families. Stoked Surf School is an approved Time2Move and Active Cornwall provider.

Is my child eligible for a free place?

Free places are for children aged 8 to 14 who are in receipt of free school meals. If you are not sure whether your child qualifies, check with their school or visit the Cornwall Council website for eligibility guidance.

My child is not on free school meals. Can they still take part?

Yes. We have 4 paid spaces per session for children aged 8 to 14. Prices are £50 for 1 day, £95 for 2 days, or £135 for 3 days. Book early as these go quickly.

What is included in the day?

Everything your child needs is included. We provide all surf equipment (boards and wetsuits) and a healthy lunch on the day. Your child will also receive a LOOP band, certificate and sticker at the end of the session. All they need to bring is swimwear, a towel, warm clothes for afterwards, and a snack or drink if they want one.

What should my child bring?

Swimwear (to wear under the wetsuit) A towel Warm clothes for after the surf Snacks and a drink if they prefer A cap for sunny days Their own wetsuit if they have one (all equipment is provided if not)

Does my child need to be able to swim?

Children should be confident swimmers in open water. All surfing takes place in waist-depth water, but water confidence is important for their safety and enjoyment. If you have any concerns, get in touch before booking.

Does my child need any previous surfing experience?

No experience needed. Our qualified instructors take things from the beginning and the sessions are designed to work for children at all levels, whether it is their first time on a board or they have surfed before.

My child needs additional support. Can they still take part?

Please contact us before booking so we can make sure we have the right arrangements in place. We want every child to have a great day, and we are happy to chat through any requirements beforehand.

Can I stay and watch?

Yes. Parents and guardians are welcome to stay. We have an indoor chill-out area with a coffee machine, outdoor showers and comfortable seating. Drop-off is at 9:30 AM and pick-up is at 1:30 PM from Stoked Surf School.

How many places are there per session?

There are 20 free (FSM) places and 4 paid places per session. Spaces fill up quickly, so we recommend booking as early as possible.

What happens if a session is cancelled?

If a session cannot go ahead due to weather or unsuitable sea conditions, all parents will be notified directly via the Playwaze booking platform.
